Interconnected Network Infrastructure Standardization System
INISS is…
INISS is an interconnected network infrastructure standardization system and an operating system currently under development by Ubient. The project was initiated to address a growing problem: computer systems that remain fully functional are often left unused or discarded simply because their software has reached end-of-support.
The premature disposal of otherwise functional computer resources due to discontinued software support has a negative impact on the environment. At Ubient, we have questioned why aging computer devices should be considered to have reached the end of their useful lives simply because they can no longer receive software support. We began exploring whether there was a way to give these devices a new life cycle.
After extensive research and a series of practical tests, we identified a possible solution. Ubient has long recognized the value of existing open-source technologies. However, we also recognized the need to design a system that would make these technologies accessible and easy to use for a much broader range of people. INISS is built upon Debian Linux, a well-established Linux distribution, and is designed to provide legacy computer systems with a new life cycle.
As technology continues to evolve, the barriers that once made Linux difficult to use are steadily diminishing. By building upon the open-source Linux ecosystem and applying Ubient’s ideas and technologies, INISS aims to introduce new possibilities into an operating system landscape that has remained largely constrained by established environments.
